Arizona Spring Arts and Crafts Show

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

Back on the days when there were lesser train stations around and when the internet and DVDs were not the most popular pastime around, we enjoyed making train models. The model trains were first invented by Frank Hornsby born in England, some have considered him as the father of the model trains. His first idea came when he built toy bridges and cranes for his sons to play. From that time it took him 5 years to make his craft a commercial success

On March 21, 2009 there will be a Spring Art and Craft Show at the Historic Train Depot. The Show will start from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and admission is free for the public. The show will be held with the hopes of reminding us the joys we had while playing with the model trains and also having real trains around.

It is expected to have 2000 attendees to this Spring Art and Craft Show, every year around this time this show has been held. The promoters are going to donate some of the money earned from the show to the Southern Arizona Transportation Museum.

All craft makers like ourselves are invited to join the prestigious juried craft show. The promoters have made a lot of efforts to keep the quality of the show, so the crafts that will be shown will be hand made and not commercially made. This is guaranteed by the juries of the show.

To join this Spring Art and Craft Shows craft makers are to summit two pictures of their work with the application letter. Craft makers that were accepted before does not guarantee re-acceptance to the craft show. All standard rules will apply like all work and displays must stay within designated space. No boxes, extra merchandise or debris should be visible. Spot area must be kept clean throughout the event and be left spotless afterwards.

Arizona Craft Fairs 101

Monday, February 16th, 2009

The State of Arizona is proud of a rich Native American history. It is recognized as a center of Native American art, and in fact, several museums have Native American art showcased in them. Because of this, both contemporary and modern artists have been visiting more and more; the number of people discovering an inner artistic touch are getting plentiful.

This connection to a person’s innate artistry makes the craft fairs so popular in the area. The chance to showcase skills and talents with a lot more people leaves many an artisan excited; the fact that they also earn a bit on the side is just the icing on the cake. If you’re an artist of craftsperson who has never been to a craft fair, then you have been missing out on a lot.

A lot of young artists show apprehension about attending craft shows simply because they do not know how to go about setting up a booth. I will try to explain how to go about starting up your booth; what you do with once it is up and running is entirely up to you and artistic vision. Don’t worry much about it, though; it is actually a lot easier to start than it seems, you just have to now how to start.

The first step is to go to an online website and check for listings for shows that’ll happen within the year. Pick the best ones; if you’re just beginning, I would advise to go with the non-juried shows. Other than that, consider other practical reasons: The distance of the craft show from the area you live, the price of the booth and what comes with it, and other things.

Once you have a list and have narroed down to a number of craft shows you want to attend, get the contact information of the event organizers. Unfortunately, many people forget how important communication is. Then afterwards get mad at others when they realize that the deal they struck wasn’t how they thought it would be.

Remember, not every craft show does things the same way. So do not be surprised if one show includes a tablecloth in their booth rental and the other does not.
