5 Tips on Choosing Your Shed With Shed Plans and Designs

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

Once you have determined that you have need of a shed the next thing you will want to decide is just what you are going to store in it. This will help you determine the size and style of the building you are going to want to purchase or build.

When you are determining the style after of course, you are sure its going to meet your needs you want something that is going to blend with your home and landscape. You may also have to consider some restrictions that you are faced with as well. There may be a particular shed that you have come across that will amply fit your needs and the design is perfect, there?s one problem though. It will not fit into the designated area that you have allotted for your new structure.

If this were to happen then you could review the space situation and see if there is an alternative place to put your shed. If not then you will have to change your thinking and find one that is going to fit.

Although there are several things you are going to need to think about prior to buying your shed, the location as we have mentioned is going to be one of the priorities. The next important aspect is what kind of foundation do you want and can use for this project. You will need to consider the condition of the land where the shed it going to sit. If it boggy and wet then there may be some problems choosing an appropriate foundation that won?t sink. If it is on a slope, you need to consider water spill off along the ground.

Once you have the foundation issues and space out of the way, you can then consider more closely, what you want to store. If you have just too many things for the size of shed you are going to have then you may want to think about getting one with a second level.

Style as we said is going to be important especially if it?s well within the viewing area of your general landscape. It needs to fit in with your general outdoor d?cor. If it doesn?t no matter how good it looks, it will seem out of place and overpower the overall look of your garden or landscaping. A good example of this is if you have a Victorian home complete with a Victorian look outside, an ultra modern type design is not going to fit in. You are going to want something more in tune with your house style. The opposite can be said for those who own ultra modern modular homes; the log cabin style shed is just not going to do the overall look any justice.

If you are unable to find anything already, pre made that suits your needs then you may want to consider having one custom made. This way you can make some alterations in layout that may better suit your needs and change the d?cor to match your taste.

Why Every Gardener Needs a Garden Shed – Plans and Design

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Spring rolls around and its time to dip into the pocket book and start getting ready for the summer. There’s planting to be done, and repairs to do. Perhaps there’s a landscaping project on the horizon.

Once the plans are in place and the items are bought its time to get out the tools. Now this is where the real challenge begins. Where did you put them last fall? Probably find some in the basement and then there’s that corner of the garage that has some of the bigger ones. Oh yes don’t forget about the spare room probably tucked some away in there too.

This has all got to tell you something. As if you really need, a garden shed. It’s going to save you time and money in the long run. It’s going to save you time because all of your outdoor tools and equipment can be stored in one place. That means when you are in need of something you can just go and get it because you know where it is. When your garden and outdoor implements are scattered all over the place, it takes a lot of time just remembering where they are and then the search is on.

Money wise they save you a great deal. One of your agreements against the garden shed investment may be you just don’t want to put out that kind of money after all you’ve managed so far.

The longer you live in a house the more you accumulate. You may have managed up until now but the time is coming sooner or later you just won’t have enough storage space.

Yes, it’s going to cost you money to buy your garden shed. Think of it this way though how much has you spent on soil weeding products and fertilizer. You use a portion of them then one of two things happen. You let them sit outside where they get destroyed by the elements, or secondly you end up throwing them out because there is no place to put them.

Most of the lawn and garden equipment that you have probably purchased has not been cheap either. When it’s not stored properly, it can become damaged or even ruined. The other thing to consider is some of the equipment is not safe to be laying around especially where there are young children.

Finally, a garden shed really does add to the ambience of the landscaping. It makes it look neat and just shows that someone really cares about their outdoors. If you aren’t sure, what style to get just look around your neighborhood and you will get a good idea. You need to base your choice according to your needs. If you don’t own a lot of garden supplies and equipment then one of the smaller ones will work nicely. Don’t forget though that those winter items can be conveniently stored here as well so plan your required space accordingly. Once you have got past the fact that you had to lay some money out for your shed you are going to be most glad that you did.

5 Steps To Choose The Perfect Shed Design – Build A Shed Plan

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

If you have any type of outdoor property and you have a garden of any size there is going to come a time when you have to have a shed.

Don’t forget that a shed isn’t just applicable to the summer months, it can be utilized to store all those winter items as well. Once you have determined that you are ready to invest in a shed then you will need to determine if you are going to build it yourself or erect a prefabricated one. Either one there is a little planning involved or you need to follow some steps to make your shed project a successful one.

First Step: Obviously, the primary purpose of your shed is going to be for storage. Then you may want a small amount of space to do some repairs or small hobbies. What you are considering right now is the size. Consider the large summer and winter items. Most certainly, you are going to want to store these in your new shed. Probably the biggest items will be your lawn mower and your snow blower. You need to think about both floor space and wall space. Many of your garden tools can be hung up.

The more you plan and organize the more you will be able to utilize the space. Now that you have an idea of just what you have to store and approximately the size of shed you need there are two more things to consider while you are still on this step. First, you need to determine just where the shed is going to be. If you have a specific amount of space available to you then your shed size is going to have to coincide with that area. Secondly, you need to think of the plan to get your shed a little bigger than what you need right now because no doubt your garden and outdoor inventory will grow.

Step Two: Once you start shopping for your shed you are going to be amazed at the models and styles. You need to constantly keep in mind your needs. If you are going to be working in the shed quite a bit then lighting is going to be important to you. You may want something with windows or preferably a skylight. You want to utilize your walls for handing items.

Step Three: You may have finally determined that you have found the perfect shed. It has everything you need. It?s the right size it has plenty of lighting and there?s room to grow. It?s ultra modern and sleek in design. There?s one problem your home happens to be an English style cottage and your entire landscape is English gardens. Somehow, the ultra modern just isn?t going to fit in with the over all look. You must keep this in mind during your shopping excursion, as it must blend in.

Step Four: Determine everything thing that you are going to need before you erect your shed. No matter whether it?s a build it yourself kit or a prefab. For example, you will need some type of foundation so you need to keep that in mind and any other extras that are applicable to your needs.

Step Five: Finally consider others. Don?t put your shed in a conspicuous place where its going to block a family members window for example. Think about your neighbors as well. I?m sure they would prefer to look out their window at your English garden rather than the back of your shed.

4 Reasons Stenciling for Interior Design Is Becoming Obsolete

Friday, April 24th, 2009

It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out why vinyl wall lettering and graphics are quickly replacing hand painted graphics and lettering. A medium that once once used solely for industrial purposes and business signage, vinyl lettering has been introduced in the last few years to interior design applications like decorative signs, decorative tiles, and wall lettering and graphics. Even heavy hitters in the interior design arena like Candice Olsen, and Ty Wittingham are using vinyl wall lettering in their interior designs. So what makes vinyl lettering so attractive for interior design? Read on and find out.

Vinyl Lettering is Inexpensive.

Most homeowners have had their fair share of run-ins with painting. Some positives experiences perhaps, but undoubtedly a good portion of negative experiences as well. With all things considered, painting is very expensive. While the paint itself can be had at a bargain, when you factor in the brushes, cleaning solutions, drop cloths, tape, clean up, ruined clothes, time, and margin for error, one thing is clear ” painting is expensive. This is where vinyl lettering has a clear advantage over paint. There are no special tools to purchase, nor do you have to worry about messes or cleanup. Vinyl lettering installs quickly and easily, usually in about 10 mins or less, and gives you the same hand painted look of paint, without the expense and hassle.

Vinyl Lettering Isn’t Messy

The mess factor is something that I think has really helped vinyl lettering make hand painting stencils obsolete. With vinyl lettering, there is really not much of a chance of making a mess. It applies very simply and effortlessly, and doesnt spill. This is a great thing, especially if you have small children. Have you ever tried painting with small children aroundthat is the perfect recipe for a mess! However, with vinyl wall lettering, it only takes 20 mins or less to install, so you can do that when the kids are playing, get it done, and then enjoy the rest of your day without having to safeguard the paint. I remember an incident a friend of mine had when she was trying to paint some flowers on her daughters bedroom walls. Lets just say that the bill to have the paint cleaned from the carpet was more than she spent on paint and supplies. Avoid the mess and hassle of painting by using vinyl wall graphics and lettering. She could have ordered the pink daisies she wanted, had them installed, and not had to worry about getting spilled paint out of her carpet.

Temporary Solution

Many of us like to change our surroundings semi-frequently. Im the kind of person that likes to change my surroundings about once a year or so. Vinyl lettering is the perfect solution if you enjoy creating new looks every so often as it is easily removable without damaging painted surfaces, and its inexpensive enough to allow you to replace it on a whim. Its also a perfect solution for renters and kids rooms. For renters, vinyl wall lettering and graphics offers the opportunity to decorate walls without the need for paint. And, because its removable without damaging walls, when youre ready to movejust take it down. Its great for kids rooms because as kids grow, their interests may change. Whether youre changing from flowers to polka dots, with vinyl lettering its easy and cost effective, so you can change it as frequently, or infrequently as you wish.

Change It Regularly

Many people love to decorate their homes for the holidays. Whether it’s Valentines Day, Halloween, Christmas, or otherwise, you can get vinyl lettering inexpensively enough to allow you to change your decor often, allowing you to customize your decor for any season. The time, mess, and expense involved with paint gives vinyl lettering an obvious upper hand when it comes to versatility.

These four reasons are only a few of the reasons that vinyl lettering for home decor is quickly becoming a popular mainstay in interior design and dcor. If youve never heard of the practice of using vinyl wall lettering, there are a few good internet companies out there that you can get the lettering kits from inexpensively. Give it a shotwe think youll love this new design medium as much as we do.

Do it yourself Window Cleaning Tips

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

On the surface, window cleaning seems like a pretty easy job. Ask any teenager to wash your windows, even for pay, and they will jump at the opportunity. The problem however, is that they will only do this once before they come to tell you that they don’t ever want to do that again. The problem with window cleaning however is not in the actual work involved, it’s in how you do it, when you do it, and what tools you use. If you want someone to enjoy cleaning your windows, or if you want to do it yourself, keep some of these tips below in mind.

If your washing your windows in direct sunlight, you will start to realize that this will cause unsightly streaks that never seem to go away no matter how much you clean them! It’s frustrating, but knowing a simple tip like washing them when the sun passes away from the windows, or is not so hot, can save you from failure and frustration as well.

So here are some window cleaning tips that will take the frustration and difficulty out of window cleaning are:

The way you hold and apply the squeegee counts!

When you are holding the squeegee, make sure you apply it angled in the direction of the water flow. If the water is going down towards your feet, move the squeegee sideways forcing the water being squeegeed to move to the part of the window you haven’t cleaned yet. If you are on top of the roof for example and the down angle is above you, squeegee moving forward, again so the water flows to the part of the window not yet cleaned. If you move against the flow of water, the water will build up and flow out of the sides of the squeegee causing streaks.

Here is an easy one, wiping the blade is important!

Some people try to squeegee the whole window one stroke at a time without wiping the blade until the end. This doesn’t work very well and can cause a streak to form from the water left on the blade. By wiping the blade after each stroke you avoid this problem and get the window cleaned much faster without retracing steps.

Overlap the streaks.

After each stroke of the squeegee you should overlap the top of the last stroke (about an inch into the dry area) and make your next stroke. If you are pointing the squeegee correctly so the water buildup falls down towards the wet part of the window surface and you’re drying off the blade after each stroke, you will not make an additional streak that you have to go back over again. Don’t ever try to squeegee right on the line, this will splash up into the dry area of the window and is extremely counter productive.

Use plenty of water

Without enough water you will have a difficult time making perfect smooth strokes with the squeegee. Be excessive with your water and always make sure you use sideways strokes where the water flows down towards the wet part of the glass.

Takes these tips. Apply them next time you want to clean your windows, and watch how much easier the job goes.

Streak Free Window Cleaning Tips

Monday, April 13th, 2009

Spring time is here, hooray! Oops, I guess living in San Diego, it’s always spring time weather. What can I say?

Being the owner of a San Diego window cleaning company does have its advantages. But let me tell you, just because the weather is perfect year around, does not mean we don’t know what a dirty window is.

We tend to take it for granted that since we don’t get bad weather, we think our windows can never get dirty. Uh, scratch that.

But let me clear one thing up, these tips aren’t just for us San Diegans. These window cleaning tips are for anybody, anywhere. They will help you wherever you live on God’s green earth.

Alright, ready to go? Let’s begin

So what do you think is the major problem when we are trying to clean our windows? The ugly streaks. We start the day feeling great, and we feel we can do anything. So what do we think we can do? We think we can get those darn windows clean.

But wait a second my friend, before you take on such a huge task, and I am not saying it can’t be done. Make sure you have a plan on what you are going to do. It won’t be that difficult.

Ready to begin? Let me fire it off rapid fire.

The first thing you need to do is have the right equipment. This isn’t the same job as cleaning your local family room glass table. No, this is glass that hasn’t been protected in a controlled environment. This is glass that has been attacked by the wind, the rain, the dust, birds, insects, doesn’t matter where your live.

So what is the right equipment? Well it surely isn’t windex and paper towels. Nope, all you need to do the job right is a squeegee a spray bottle, and then paper towels.

Use all these tools, and cleaning these windows will be a snap.

What next? Well you need the right ingredient to go in that spray bottle. And what is that you may ask? All you need is a bucket of 2 gallons of water, and here it comes, the secret sauce, a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid. What? That’s it? That’s right my friend. You get this right, and you will have beautiful windows.

Oh, one more big thing, you have to add a lot of elbow grease.

Remember when we talked about waking up and being able to take on the world? Well after the third window, you might run out of some elbow grease.

Now when you run out of elbow grease, don’t forget who got you started on the right road. You local San Diego window cleaning company who is more than happy to kick in their elbow grease.

Until the next time we meet, happy cleaning.
