Hard to Clean Grout

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Getting tiled flooring for your home has a lot of advantages. For one thing, you don’t have to worry about warping from the slightest spills. Neither would you see unpleasant scratches too easily. And have I mentioned how easy it is to clean tiles? All you have to do is do the occasional sweeping, and wipe off spills as necessary.

The ease with the tiles can be cleaned comes with a price, of course. And it is matched by the difficulty when you have to clean the grout in between the tiles. If cleaning is not done at least twice a month, dirt and grime will accumulate beneath the grout, thanks to grout’s porous nature. What this means is, among other things is that the foreign particles will settle in a place that is hard to reach.

And if you let the dirt and grime stay underneath, this will spell trouble for your health. Especially in moist areas like the kitchen and the bath, grout will eventually accumulate a fungus called black mold. You can’t reach its breeding grounds, but it can make itself airborne and get to you. Do not let this harmful organism do its damage on your body.

There are ways to clean the grout, of course. Even if it was left untreated for months, there are still certain detergents that could kill the black mold within. But then, such chemicals would be the ones lingering in the grout in your stead, and this, in turn, is just as harmful to people. Toddlers that love to crawl around are especially susceptible to these.

So, how do you treat grout problems? For me, the most efficient way to get rid of dust, grime, and black mold is through contacting and hiring professional cleaners to come in and deal with it. Some will have environmentally-friendly solutions if you ask them, and you will want these instead of the toxic chemicals. You’ll be able to see the grout cleaners get rid of all harmful substances in your grout.

Tiles and Grout Should Be Kept Consistently Clean

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Cleaning your tiles and grout in the bathroom is an essential upkeep to make at home. You just can’t afford to get them dirty; otherwise it could be a haven for disease that could infect you, your family, and your pets. Without a doubt, this is something that you want to avoid at all costs.

The whole house must be routinely cleaned and this is a fact that all homeowners must know. But what’s with the focus on tile and grout cleaning? The reason being is that the longer you keep your tiles and grout dirty, it’ll be that much harder to clean them when you decide to go and finally do that cleaning you’ve been putting off.

Part of the problem can be attributed to grout itself. Grout is made from cement-like material that binds your tiles together, but is also unfortunately porous. When you neglect to clean, you are letting all the dirt and grime sink deeper and deeper into the grout. When it reaches as deep as it can, it will already be in too deep to let a cleaning brush reach in deep enough to clean.

When this happens, you will probably resort to some of the more powerful cleansers out there in the market. You will be instructed to pour the cleanser onto the tiles and grout, wait for some time, and then rinse off the chemical. It is indeed an effective way of cleaning, but let me ask you this; are you truly willing to replace dirty grout with chemicals that are potentially more harmful to your family and pets?

Instead of risking your family’s health and well-being and cleaning the tiles and grout yourself, you can always go with the much better option of calling professional cleaners. It’ll be worth the cost, especially if they use safe and environmentally-friendly cleaning methods. Afterwards, you can just make simple upkeep on a daily basis to maintain your bathroom. You will only need their services once every two or three months after.

Considering Mother Nature in Tile and Grout Cleaning

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

Since the invention of the television, the task of cleaning tiles and grout at home has been emphasized. Immediately after the technology became available to the public, there have been thousands of advertisements about various cleaning chemicals for this task. Look back and see such ads in classic black and white: You’ll find a well-dressed housewife with her prim and proper hairdo. With a sweet smile, she tells the camera how effective her cleansing detergent is.

If you think about it, very little has changed in the advertising industry since then. You would just see the mother replaced by the archetypal household helper in promoting the various cleansers. Modern concerns have also been put into the limelight; not only should a cleaning detergent be effective now, but it must also be friendly to the environment. It should keep the kids using the bathroom safe, and it must not further deteriorate the failing health of Mother Nature.

This is indeed one of the biggest concerns with the use of any laboratory chemical these days. Will it contribute to global warming? If it has been shown that it does (as competitors to the product in question are quick to point out), then it will quickly lose sales. We must of course ensure that our children will have a home in the future.

Sadly, the truth is that the more harmful detergents remain better at cleaning your tiles and grout when compared to their environmentally-friendly counterparts. If you’re the sort of guy who couldn’t really care about the Earth’s well-being, then you’ll probably choose the harmful but efficient option. I beg you not to do so; think of your children if not the Earth, at the very least.

If you find yourself thinking that the process of grout cleaning is too time-consuming without such detergents, save yourself the trouble and instead hire professional cleaners! They’ll do the job more efficiently than you ever could, and you can still do your part for the environment by requesting the use of the most environmentally sound way to clean that grout. Your home will be cleaned, the future will be secured, and you didn’t break your back to do so.

Tile and Grout Cleaning at the Office

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

The office space has to exude an aura of professionalism. For this to happen, the interior designer should be mindful of every aspect of the workplace. From the arrangement of the cubicles to the lighting, this should all be carefully considered so that it doesn’t feel like some boiler room. And of course, part of the visage that must be taken into account is the type of floor that you use.

Wooden floors were once part of an office that wanted to give the impression of elegance and professionalism. Wood has serious issues regarding spilled coffee, etc; so the time has long gone. CEOs are instead looking for more contemporary looking material. Interestingly, they have found material that have been used for two millenia.

Polished concrete is starting to get popularity, as is the classic tile. The latter has always been used, but is only now achieving status as the top-tier flooring material of choice. This is interesting, as tiles have been with us since the Roman Empire; indeed, these tiles on those same buildings survive to this day.

Of course, simply getting tiles for your office floor and then getting done with it is not enough. You also have to make sure that the tiles themselves are neither too retro or too boring; otherwise the mindset of your employees might not be focused on work. Get the right type of tile, and get the best grout color for it as well.

Once your tiles are installed, only minor upkeep is required to maintain it for many years. Have Tile and Grout Cleaners do a pass over your office floor about once a month. If you keep the office floor clean, the benefits are going to be twofold. You keep the office atmosphere of professionalism, and you won’t case the inadvertent decline in employee health that dirty grout have been known to bring.

False Perception of Grout in Cleaning Tiles

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Many perceive the grout in between the tiles as a secondary problem. Some would even go as far as neglecting it altogether; after all, the space that the grout occupies is negligible. Surely not caring for it can’t be that bad.

This is a failed argument because it has a false premise. The very concept that grout only occupies a negligible area is not true; combined, grout will occupy around one-fifth or your total tiled area. As it is around twenty percent of your total floor space, I don’t think that is a negligible amount to be uncared for.

In addition, it would be helpful to note that beneath your tiles, there are more grout to be found. But why is this important, when we definitely will not have an opportunity to clean that? Well, consider the fact that grout is a porous substance. If you don’t clean it for a long time, unwelcome particles will slowly seep from the visible grout to the part beneath. There the grout may start to get infested with all sorts of molds and bacteria; and this will be beyond the reach of any cleansing device.

When you leave this dirt on its own, the infestation within grout will increase and grow in numbers. The grout holding your tiles together will be weakened and you’ll begin to see elevated parts, or worse, cracks. In the event that your grout reaches this point, you will need to regrout.

So whenever you clean the tiles, pay close attention to the grout as well. They are still an important part of your home, and you deserve to be safe from the dangers that may lurk if you don’t clean them regularly. Clean tiles and grout every week, and your floor will stay beautiful for a long time.

Learn the Lessons of Cleaning Grout

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Everyone makes mistake every now and then, and that’s alright. What’s wrong is if you don’t learn from the mistake you made. If you disregard the lesson, then you’ll most likely make the same error again in the future. When you clean your home, once a cleaning practice you have tried proves to be ineffective, it?s time to abandon it for something that works.

Many of us fall into the first mistake because a lot of homeowners are quite busy these days. While you may still get to clean the house, you won’t be doing as often as it is needed. You’ll probably think that it’s not as required; as this is a common though among bachelors and single persons as they barely spend much time in their homes. But it’s really hard to relax inside your own abode if it’s dirty, cluttered, grimy and gloomy.

Besides, the longer it takes for you to clean your home, then the more time will there be for harmful organisms to breed. The grout in between your tiles is perhaps the most susceptible to this unwanted growth. And to make matters worse, the longer grout stays dirty, the harder it becomes to clean it.

So learn from this mistake, and routinely clean your grout at home. Don’t let the dirt and grime to penetrate the grout’s tiny holes, putting them beyond the reach of even the most vigorous brushing. About once a week will do fine; I personally set aside an hour of my weekends so that I can perform upkeep on my grout.

Before you can learn from your mistakes, though, you must undo the consequences that happened as a result of it. To that end, you must clean that dirty grout in your home. But how would you do it, if all the unpleasant particles have already settled in beneath the surface? In times like this, the best way to deal with it is to call professional grout cleaners. Once the slate is clean, you can begin the task of maintaining it undaunted.

The Bane That Is Grout Cleaning

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Grout is the bane of every homeowner. While it does the essential task of holding the tiles of your place together, you cannot deny that it needs a lot of upkeep to maintain. And if you ignore it for some time, it gets too dirty; you won’t be able to clean it no matter how hard you try.

So, what makes grout so hard to clean? If you look closely at the grout, you’ll notice that it is made up quite similarly to a sponge; it is of a porous material and the tiny holes in it absorb debris, dust and foreign objects into it. These are small holes, and a cleaning brush will not be able to sufficiently clean it. But it will allow particles of dust to get into it; and liquid will most likely pass through and get trapped inside. This is where the problem starts.

Accumulated dirt on grout becomes a handy breeding area for bacteria and fungi to grow on if left dirty. These are harmful to humans and animals. Asthmatic people may find it difficult to breathe in areas such as these, and even those in perfect health may get struck by black mold. If your family members keep getting sick and staying outdoors, even though you believe you keep a clean and safe home, you may want to check the grout again. It’s possible it’s dirty.

The lesson in this article is that grout must be kept as clean as you possibly can. Don’t neglect it, as dirt settles in quickly and will stay out of reach of your brush; be vigilant and strive to clean at least once a week. Your grout will be less of a threat to your family then.

Every household has grout, and almost every household has a grout problem because of it being high maintenance. I fully empathize with people who can’t really spare time cleaning as often as they should, as I am one of them. If you are, too, then you can contact people who specialize in cleaning grout to come in and clean it up for you. You’ll still have a healthy home if you do this.

House Train Your Pet or Clean Tiles and Grout

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

One of the biggest challenges that come with getting your household floor tiled is the presence of your pets. Sure, they can be loving and soothing animals; but in the end, they, like us, would have to go. And unfortunately for you, if you didn’t train them while young, they will continuously use your whole living room as one large toilet.

The first thing you have to worry about is pet pee. When your animal companion pees onto tiles, the grout will absorb the liquid; there will be some left even if you scrub thoroughly. As it is liquid, you have to clean it immediately without letting it have time to settle deep. Unfortunately, the truth of the matter is that they will sometimes go without you knowing.

Droppings are easier to deal with, but those things are very tough to clean nonetheless. If you don’t see it and get rid of it quick, the porous grout will allow the particles to settle inside. And like with pee, once it’s in the grout, it will be very difficult to scrub off. One would have to resort to the really tough cleansers to remove every last fetid particle. But are you willing to risk your pets interacting with the harmful cleansers that will take its place?

Of course, the best way to counter these things from happening is to house-train your pet. Teach your companion to do its business in a specific place; that way, your tiles and grout will be kept safe. But if you have an older dog that can no longer learn new tricks, then a less than desirable option is to keep them outside the house.

I am opposed to keeping them out, however, so you can instead follow my example. For the case of my five-year old dog, I still let him inside the house, and I just clean up after him as much as I can. It’s a task, yes, but if I do it immediately, then it will take some time for the bio waster to affect my floor. When that does happen, I just call on the professional grout cleaners. They can clean the spots that I just can’t with their strong detergents. Besides that, they will use environmentally safe formulas, too, if you ask for it.

The Shameful Hiding of Dirty Tiles and Grout

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

There are some people who love showing off their homes. These homeowners are thankfully few and far between, but it is true that we all want to be proud of our homes somewhat. The emphasis here is on “what”; if we take steps to try and make it better, like having and maintaining a beautiful garden outside, then we would certainly go ahead and do it.

Still, I have seen many people hide their homes because of one part of the home; one that cannot be hidden from their visitors. They don’t invite their friends over because they want to prevent them from seeing their bathroom. And let’s face it; visitors will be going to that place.

The quest to hide one’s bathroom has grown so silly over the years, and it amazes me to see what great lengths they will take to hide it. Have you ever made your visitors hold it in, pretending that your bathroom is not operational? This simply has to stop. Ways exist to clean the bathroom, tile, grout, and all; to keep it dirty just because it’s so hard to clean is really not a very bright move.

If you’re the type who doesn’t want to get his or her hands dirty, you can opt to call on professional tile and grout cleaners. Even right here in Richmond, there are a number of experts at cleaning these dirtiest places in the household. Don’t worry if it has been months, or even a year since the horrid place was last used: The machinery they use as well as the quality of the detergent can clean those up in no time.

And if you’re worried about the cost, think of it this way: Once you have had it cleaned initially, you don’t have to call on them too often if you stick to some daily rituals. At the end of each day, wash all four corners of the bath, and then spray a concentration of part chlorine, and part water. This simple ritual will keep your tiles and grout clean for months, which means the need to call them won’t come up too often.
