Monday, May 4th, 2009

Purchasing golf clubs can be like throwing your money onto the fire, but armed with some fore-knowledge, you can save yourself time and money when you’re choosing your golf clubs. As in many things, you can either spend a lot of money in one go or you can spend a little several times, before you get what you really need.

If you are just beginning and are not 100% sure that you want to commit yourself to the addictive game of golf, you should either rent golf clubs at the clubhouse on the golf course, or buy a starter set of golf clubs.

Buying a set of beginner’s golf clubs allows you to get used to them; enabling you to concentrate on your game instead of pondering how this odd set of golf clubs you just hired is going to work out.

After you become better acquainted with the game of golf, you should consider investing in a better set of golf clubs which are more suited to you.

Generally, a set includes a driver, one or two fairway woods, numbers 4-9 irons, a wedge or two and a putter.

Once you become more experienced and start thinking about new clubs, you may want to think about buying your driver separately. Some players want a driver to give them more accuracy, others need more distance.

There are numerous types of golf ball available and the golf ball box will often have a chart on the back to direct you to the right ball for your requirements. As you learn more about the game and get better at it, you should experiment with different balls which could improve your accuracy and/or your distance.

Having the right golf equipment is an important part of the game, so watch out and make your purchases wisely!

Soccer Psychology, Playing With Your Head And Not Your Feet

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Playing soccer with your head doesn’t mean going into the air and heading the ball into or away from the goal. Playing with your head means that you are mentally ready to play for the entire match and that you can get into your opponents head and make them play at a lower level than they are capable. That’s soccer psychology.

If a player or a team does not play at their desired level, their chances of winning a match are minimized. Not playing at the desired level often is a psychological factor not a physical one. In any league, from the English Premier League to the lowest level recreational league the spectator can observe mistakes happening on the field. It is incumbent for the player who makes the mistake to ignore the mistake made and continue play. If the player dwells on the mistake, they will not play up to the highest level that they are capable of.

To play at this optimum level, the soccer player must know what their playing limitations are and insure that they play to maximize their strong qualities and minimize the exposure of the limitations. This knowledge and the application of tactics during a match insure that the player doesn’t “try to do too much” and overextends himself or herself during play. This overextension will tend to expose the limitations of their abilities and consequently reduce their level of play.

Many parents and players who are new to soccer have the idea that soccer is a “non contact” sport. It is true that soccer players only wear shin guards and some goalkeepers a leather cap, but soccer is a full contact sport. A referee team controls the physical play on the field. This physical play can be either fair or foul. The referee will decide what is fair or foul within the rules of the game. The player must accept the fact that they are going to be bumped into, pushed, kicked or tripped during the course of the match. The acceptance of this physical play without getting angry or retaliating allows the player to continue to play at their highest level.

Defensive players will utilize any tactic to take the offensive player out of a match. The better defensive players will utilize both physical play and psychology to minimize the effect of a skilled offensive player. During one state high school tournament, blue was playing against white. Blue had a highly skilled and dangerous striker. White had no individual defensive player to match the blue striker. In the pregame the white coach was trying to determine how to play against this dangerous player. The white stopper spoke up and said, “No problem coach, I’ve got him”. The blue team won the toss and elected to take the ball to start the match. The white stopper lined up on the center circle. The whistle blew and the blue striker got the ball. The white stopper took the blue striker down with a hard tackle. The referee called the foul and cautioned the white player. The stopper leaned down to the striker, offered to help him up and said “Hi, you’ll see me all night”. During the match the striker was totally ineffective. He was always waiting for the stopper to appear. The stopper in the first minute of the game had used soccer psychology to cause the striker to play at far less than his ability.

While soccer psychology works for the individual player, the entire team is affected by using soccer psychology. The players must buy into the concept that they are members of a team and individual play is part of the team effort. This team effort and the utilization of all every player on the pitch will provide team success as a whole. This team concept insures that the “stud” players do not need feel pressure to win every game by themselves. The stud player when confronted by a number of opponents must know they have the ability to release the ball to another team mate who has no opponents nearby and can help contribute to the team. Soccer psychology is utilized to both create and reinforce the team concept. This team concept provides any team the opportunity to succeed on the pitch.

Soccer is a free flowing, creative game. The application of soccer psychology insures that the players on the team are allowed to make mistakes without self criticism or doubt. One of the biggest factors in soccer psychology is that the players are part of a team and that mistakes are allowed. When an individual player makes a mistake, that player knows that there will be a teammate available to help correct the mistake. Proper application of soccer psychology will insure that the team as a whole will accept mistakes and that the team as a whole will remediate the mistakes without criticism by the player who made the mistake or the team being critical of the mistake.

The team concept insures that individual mistakes are remediated by the other members of the team on the pitch. Players must know that they are playing as a team and that their teammates will provide them support when mistakes are made. This soccer psychology builds team strength and causes opponents to view the team as a strong team. When opponents take the pitch against what is perceived to be a strong team, they start the match in a negative mode. This application of soccer psychology insures that the team as a whole plays to the best of its abilities.

The Arm Moves in Wrestling

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

The arm moves in wrestling include the arm breakers, arm drags, over the shoulder arm drags, arm swings, etc. The arm bar take down is another of the moves in wrestling. The arm bar attacks by forcing the arm of the opponent downward.

The challenger feels the pain around the shoulder area and the assailant then grips the arms extending them lengthwise. The shoulder is eventually forced to the mat. This is a pin in most cases unless the wrestler can wriggle his/her way out of the hold.

The arm breakers include slamming of the arms, typically on an area of the opponent’s body where it will hurt. Usually the pin ends with the scissors, where the wrestler’s legs are crossed over the challengers body, holding his/her shoulders down to the mat.

The various moves, manoeuvres and holds appear to be painful in the ring, but the reality is that these wrestling moves are all choreographed, that is, they are just a theatrical show to get your attention. The actors rehearse their scenes long before they get into the ring and are shown how to send ‘signs’ to finish the bout whenever should they want to.

The wrestlingmoves seem real on television, because the cameras and other distractions, including models, divert the attention of the audience. Wrestling is really quite similar to how magicians work. Magicians rehearse their stage act before they go on the stage. There is always a feint or an explanation, yet the magician performs his act so slickly and the audience is so distracted, that the magician makes people believe that he or she is doing the thing for real.

The ‘arm drags’ involve the assailant getting the opponent in a hook move and then flipping the challenger down onto the mats. Most of the moves are devised by one or the other of the wrestlers and sometimes it may become a popular move and so taken up by others. Two of the older moves are the Gallatin and the Banana Split

The ‘over the shoulder’ move should be called the body slam since the opponent will throw the challenger over his shoulder, slamming him/her onto the mat. At one time, this wrestling move was probably a slammer, but today it is the shoulder-arm throw move.

The ‘wringer; is another of the arm moves in wrestling which is sometimes known as the spin wrist lock hold. This move is often followed by the Irish Thrash moves, mallet locks, and gouges.

Some other arm moves include the arm stretches, arm breakers, arm wringer, arm locks, arm bar and arm scissors. While the arm moves are famous in the ring, there are many moves you may see today that you would never have heard of when wrestling first had its beginning in ancient times. The Amityville Horror is one of wrestling’s more modern moves. Although, I haven’t figured out what this move entails, we shall analyse it together.

Right now, from what I see the Amityville Horror is just a ploy to lead people into renting or buying the movie. As for the moves, I did see it listed in the list of wrestling moves; however, as for now no information is available to learn what this move entails. The moves are basically brands from the wrestlers, therefore what I’m assuming is that the wrestler felt he had acted out one of the most horrific moves in wrestling, so he named it the Amityville.

Why is it that some moves get roaring applause? Well, it can start when a wrestler in the ring brings in a new manoeuvre and it becomes his signature, popular final move in his bouts.

Fishing for Bass

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

It is very handy to get some tips on bass fishing when you are a beginner. Firstly, it it is important to know that bass are fish whose metabolism depends on the temperature of the surrounding water. Their metabolism rises or falls proportionally with the increase or decrease in water temperature. Therefore, if the water where they happen to be is cold, as it is in deeper waters, they are less active and so eat a lot less.

Therefore, around about January, you should start bass fishing in increasingly warmer waters because the bass will want to leave the colder deeper waters so that they can spawn. Furthermore, during the Autumn/Fall the bass begin to move towards colder and deeper waters where they would be safer during the cold season. But fishermen should not expect them to migrate great distances all that quickly because their cycles of moving from one place to the next as the seasons do take several months.

It is also good to know when you are bass fishing that these fish are very sociable: that is, they tend to shoal together into quite large schools, which generally consist of fish of the same size. That obviously means that, if you catch some bass in one spot, you are likely to catch more in the same area so long as you do not throw the fish you’ve already caught back into the water dead as that could well panic the rest of the shoal.

Moreover, a good bass fishing area is quite easy to identify. Just remember that they are predators, but not particularly active ones since their favourite food is not actually one they have to work hard to get. Instead, they just wait patiently and lazily for prey to swim past and then they pounce on it.

They very often go for injured or less energetic game even though this might not be on their regular menu. Their regular menu consists of crawfish, minnows, worms, insects, frogs and so on. If fishermen learn these things about bass, together with their mating habits, fishing for them should be much easier and more fun.

However, bass are prey themselves, so they need cover too, which is why bass fishing is most successful in areas where the fish can find safety in and around small or large rocks, weeds and other shady or indeed sunny, well-lit areas where it is difficult for them to be seen.

Successful bass fishing may also depend on the type of bait that is chosen by the angler. Bait should vary according to both the season ” spring, summer, autumn or winter ” and the spawning cycle of this fish species. For beginners, let us not forget that there are always experienced anglers ready to come up with tips. Just don’t be afraid to ask because the most effective bait varies from region to region.

Kids Soccer, Developing Your Love

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Importance of coach- The most important facet of kids soccer is not the quality players but rather the quality coach. The children are still open to skills development and game perfection. However a coach is already formed with either good or bad coaching techniques, with possibility of little or no teaching of new tricks to old dog.

Fun- The main reason children sign up for soccer is to develop their interest in the games but more importantly to have fun. Without proper time on the field the kids’ skills will not be developed and no fun will be had. Every player should get approximately 50% time to play in a soccer game, thus rotation is very important. The rotation should be based not on a players ability to play wonderfully but instead on his or her motivation and attitude.

Hiring pro’s- In general kids soccer can be a bit expensive. However expense is pushed to the limit in the game when professional trainers are hired as coaches. These pro’s can cost the parents up to US$100 extra. The only disadvantage to professional trainers is that competitiveness reigns over fun. It defeats the whole object of kids soccer.

Is the game appropriate?- Before your child can join kids soccer team make sure that the game is appropriate for him or her. They should be at least 5 years of age, either a girl or a boy as it is a unisex game. It is rather safe game as contact is limited. Your child should be very fit, have good ball and visual skills and work well in team structure

Discipline- Discipline is key to your teams success. Disciplined teams perform better on and off the field, making the overall experience much more enjoyable. The concept of discipline is one of the greatest challenges for new coaches.

Camping- Kids camps are ideal for development and socialisation with children with the same ideas and love of the game. However exercise caution in choosing your childs’ camp. Safety is essential as well as separate of children of different ages. Mixed camps are generally a disaster as there is no age appropriate programmes applied. Safety is also not of the highest importance during these mixed camps. Different ages require different supervision.

Basics- To understand the game you first have to understand the rules. There are 11 players in a team including the goalkeeper. No handling of the ball with hands or arms is allowed. A goal is scored when the ball is kicked into the opposing teams net. One goal represents one point. A soccer field is rectangular and measures between 90-120×45-90 metres.

Screaming from sideline- Parents should avoid sideline coaching in it’s entirety. The child will not be able to distinguish if he should listen to the coach or his or her parent for playing advice. This will confuse the child extremely. This only confuses the kids later to extent that they will not be able to follow a game plan or strategy developed by the coach. Respect is of highest importance for your team to succeed. Not only between players and coach but also between coach and parents. Disrespect will be picked up easily by the kids and the lead of the adults followed.

Soccer Training To Make Yourself A Better Player

Friday, April 10th, 2009

If you are going to be successful in sports, you must do training on your own to become a better player. Team practice is there to hone your skills as unit, but to be a better individual player, practice cannot stop once the coach tells you to hit the showers. Here are some soccer training skills to work at to help you become a better player.

One of the most important factors in becoming a good soccer player is soccer speed. You are going to have to be able to get to the ball quicker than your opponents and then in order to score, you are going to have to be able to get around them.

If you can keep a quicker pace than anyone else out on the field, you are ensuring that you will have success against them. You can wear your opponent down by changing directions very quickly without losing your burst of speed. Being able to move short distances extremely quick is what will give you the edge and the proper soccer speed that you need to be successful.

As you can imagine, soccer is also an endurance sport. The players are running on the field for over 90 minutes with very little rest time. Your fitness level has to be incredible to do this and you get to that point with strong aerobic routines. By doing aerobic exercise for more than 30 continuous minutes, you will build up your tolerance and excel on the field of play.

Now all that speed and aerobic fitness is not going to do you any good if you cannot control the ball. There are various skills that you are going to have to perfect in order to become a high tier player. Two of the skills that are basic but mandatory to become excellent at are receiving and trapping. By being able to control the ball in traffic, you will become the go to guy for the coach. Once you perfect the art of directing the ball (usually by using your foot on the top half or middle of the ball) with your foot, you will be able to move in traffic and put yourself into position to score.

There will also be times that the ball is moving very quickly and you must stop its movement to prevent loss of control and a turnover. If you cannot master trapping, you will not be able to start on any team.

When using your foot to trap, you need to get your body square to the path of the flight of the ball. You will absorb the ball with your foot by recessing it slightly in order to slow down the speed of the ball and get it under control. You can now get the ball settled and make your next move.

There is also more to control than just using your feet. There are times when you are going to have to use other body parts out of sheer necessity. While foot control is the major factor, being able to control the ball with your head and body is also going to be necessary. When you are using your body, your chest gives you the largest surface to land the ball. Just like you pull your foot back when trapping, you will bend your torso back to receive the ball and cushion the impact. To do this with your head, you will just line yourself up square the ball and as it arrives, you can direct the ball by bending your knees and leaning your upper body forward to direct the ball downward so you can get it back under control with your feet.
